Who knew rescheduling a session would have been so worth it? As wedding photographers, it is very important to have backup plans. This includes an alternate date / rain check on engagement sessions. While some engagement photographers may not agree with this, weather and wind plays such a key role to create a complete session, that you can’t leave it to chance. In our case, we had planned for May 9th, and we decided to move it to another day because there was some rain in the radar. “Thank God we rescheduled photos!” said Lana, days later. That being said, sometimes rain, snow or clouds can create some incredible imagery! (see our photo gallery of awesome wedding photos in crazy weather)
Jonathan met the couple at Magnolia Cafe in Chicago, IL. This bakery not only has fabulous treats, but also offers quite the romantic setting that most couples want for their session. Photographers Tip (Subscribe) For any photographers reading this post, keep this location on your books, because these people are so nice, and they typically allow photo and video at their shop as long as you give them a call in advance. They even reserved a table for our couple by the window, which enabled us to capture some beautiful photos of their date. We loved reflections of the city. Really neat, you guys!
During our planning stage with Lana, we went back and forth on locations in the city. We had a good list of places to visit, but when we began shooting, she pointed out their condo, which happened to be near the Chicago Theater. So we decided to head over to their condo to get some photos, and it also became an excellent excuse to capture some really beautiful portraits of the couple as they walked through the Chicago Theater back alley.
Photographers Tip (Subscribe) While the Chicago sign on the front of the theater is fun to photograph, try walking around the back, given the right time of the day, it gives you some amazing light shafts that are unbelievable! Seriously, check it out!.
When we arrived at their condo, she said they were just moving in and that it was basically empty. Jon thought of it as the perfect opportunity to grab some pictures of them in their soon-to-be home, and oh my! I will let the images speak for themselves on how beautiful this moment was! Nothing like airy, modern chic photos in their open condo to give the perfect urban engagement session. Sometimes, it’s not the decorations in a home that makes a great photo, but creating one of the first memories of their new home that will last forever. What a great way to document this moment of their lives!
